SURF THE AMAZON

Rio Surf n Stay Combie at Praia do Prainha

Immerse yourself in the energy of the Pororoca, with the rainforest as your background, and the power of the wave your only distraction. We will fly, drive, and sail into the middle of the remote and pristine AmazonJungle at the extreme north of Brazil, to surf the longest wave in the world: the Pororoca!

SURFING THE AMAZON We fly from Rio de Janeiro to Macapá, drive from Macapá to Cutias, where we take a boat down the river to wait for the monthly Pororoca that arrives only once a day, and lasts for 4 hours! Our jet boats and jet skis will take you to the Pororoca, pull you into the wave and recover you if you fall. You will surf for at least 10 minutes a ride, and as long as 40 minutes, if you are fit enough. For surfers, this is truly a once in a lifetime experience. Wind down from the thrill of surf each day by immersing yourself in the spectacular scenery, exotic wildlife, and vibrant culture of the Amazon rainforest. Set out on foot, by boat, or on the back of a water buffalo, to see snakes, crocodiles, and piranhas. Meet the friendly and welcoming locals.

Macapá

To start things off, we fly from Rio de Janeiro to Macapá. From Macapá, we will take a live aboard boat down the Amazon River to a safe zone where we’ll wait for the Pororoca each day. The Pororoca is a natural tidal bore that happens each month for 3 or 4 days with new and full moons, and pushes up river twice a day with the change of tides (once in the daytime, once at night). It can run for up to 4 hours each time, depending on the moon and tides.

The Amazon

Each day, our guides will take you on flex boats and jet skis from our live aboard boat down to the river mouth area where the Pororoca rushes in from the ocean, up the river, and forms into an amazing surfable wave that runs for close to 20km in total! Combining our local guides’ knowledge with your skill (and leg strength), you can surf this amazing wave in multiple sections, for up to 30 minutes straight! Our team of boats and jet skis will be there watching you surf and ready to pick you up when you fall and put you back onto the wave as many times as required.

The Pororoca

After the intensity of your Pororoca surf sessions, we’ll wind down for the rest of the day to enjoy food and drinks onboard, and take in the spectacular scenery, exotic wildlife and vibrant culture of the Amazon Rainforest. After surfing, we’ll have plenty of time during the day to set out on foot into the jungle, go fishing for piranha, ride water buffalos, or have fun wake boarding, kite boarding and SUP boarding on the river. And for the REALLY adventurous (or just plain crazy)… we’ll surf the Pororoca at night!
